
On compassionate grounds, RMG workers will receive their full salary for November, despite factory closures during protest demonstrations, contrasting with the “no work, no pay” policy implemented by approximately 78 factories under the labour act.
However, workers implicated in factory torching incidents will be excluded from salary disbursement, with legal procedures against them continuing.
While the labour law stipulates salary payment by 8th December, financial constraints are causing owners to delay payments, though it is anticipated that most factories will fulfil payment obligations this week.
The newly signed gazette for the RMG wage structure by State Minister of Labour and Employment Monnujan Sufian will soon be published, introducing updated wage standards.
BGMEA Vice President Shahidullah Azim affirmed the decision to fully compensate workers, attributing acts of vandalism to external forces and emphasising the association’s commitment to payment despite challenges.
In October, BGMEA President Faruque Hassan warned of potential indefinite production halts in accordance with the “no work, no pay” provision.
