Readymade garment manufacturers voiced their concerns and made several demands in response to the ongoing worker unrest related to wage hikes.
They called for enhanced security measures at their manufacturing facilities and immediate action to apprehend individuals responsible for the ongoing disruptions.
These manufacturers addressed their concerns during a general meeting held with their fellow members at the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) office in Uttara, in the capital Dhaka recently.
Approximately 200 factory owners reportedly gathered to express their apprehension regarding the recent disturbances in garment factories over the past week.
Among their demands, they urged the Government to issue a special notification enabling the implementation of Section 13/1 of the labour law.
This section empowers employers to temporarily or partially close down any section or establishment in response to an illegal strike in a particular department or section of their establishment.
Meanwhile, Faruque Hassan, the president of BGMEA reportedly emphasised that they would not compromise on their stance even as he added they have already presented evidence to the National Security Intelligence (NSI), the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI), and other Government agencies, urging them to take action against those responsible for vandalism.
