By applying ways and methods to conserve energy and natural resources, Bangladesh denim industry has started producing sustainable denim, as it joined the eco-friendly initiative. This new system will help bring down the use of water by 92 per cent and energy by 30 per cent to produce a pair of jeans, compared to the conventional methods. It uses less chemicals, reduces carbon emission and encourages use of recyclable raw materials. It also reduces cotton waste by up to 87 per cent, thus easing CO2 emissions and other greenhouse gases generated through the burning of cotton.
Bangladesh currently has 25 denim manufacturing factories with total investment of US $ 834 million.
