The prestigious Oeko-Tex certification has been given to Eri Silk, based in the northeastern province of Assam, marking a significant milestone for the Indian textile industry.
The statement, which was made on August 15th, represents a major turning point for the Ministry of Development of the North Eastern Region’s (DoNER) North Eastern Handicrafts and Handlooms Development Corporation (NEHHDC).
Eri Silk has long been praised for its ethical production method and is frequently referred to as the only vegan silk in the world. Eri Silk preserves the integrity of the silk strands by allowing the silk moth to spontaneously emerge from its cocoon, in contrast to standard silk production methods.
This strategy is a perfect fit with the expanding demand for eco-friendly and sustainable fabrics around the world. The strict Oeko-Tex certification for textiles is widely acknowledged, having been granted straight from Germany.
It guarantees that goods that are certified are devoid of dangerous materials and produced in an eco-friendly manner. This endorsement strengthens Eri Silk’s attractiveness in the international market while also confirming its sustainability.
Eri Silk has already established a distinctive place for itself in the textile industry as a Geographical Indication (GI) product of Assam. Its authenticity and regional relevance are further reinforced by the Oeko-Tex certification, which may open the door to more exports and global recognition.
Eri Silk should be able to access new markets in the global textile industry thanks to this accreditation.
Eri Silk from Assam is currently positioned to emerge as a major force in the eco-friendly fabric market as the world shifts more and more towards sustainable and ethical fashion choices. This accomplishment demonstrates India’s dedication to sustainable growth and its expanding influence in the global textile market.
