Amazon warehouses have reportedly been violating compliance as they are reportedly instructing injured employees to resume work, potentially putting them at risk of further harm.
As per investigations by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and WIRED, it has been revealed that Amazon’s on-site first-aid clinic, known as AmCare, at Amazon warehouses is prioritising keeping employees working instead of referring them to appropriate medical care.
It has been said that the investigators interviewed 11 on-site medical representatives (OMRs) who have worked at Amazon’s on-site first aid clinic.
The interviewees claimed that the company’s system jeopardises the health of its employees by allowing them to return to work with injuries instead of directing them to doctors for proper treatment.
The report suggests that some of these OMRs, who are typically emergency medical technicians (EMTs), have allegedly been encouraged to direct workers towards in-house treatment.
The investigation also underlines that the AmCare staff are not adequately qualified to diagnose and treat injuries, as their official role is to provide basic first aid.
It is significant to mention here that earlier this year in April also the seriousness of Amazon’s medical management practices was highlighted when Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) issued the company its third citation in the agency’s 53-year history, stating that it had risked employees’ health.
