The Life and Building Safety (LABS) Initiative has announced over 500 factories from India, Vietnam, Cambodia and Indonesia have joined its programme.
Pramit Chanda, worldwide director of textile and manufacturing at The Sustainable Trade Initiative and spokesperson for LABS, thinks that the industry’s determination to instill a safety culture is demonstrated by the fact that over 500 firms have joined the movement.
He stated, “LABS remains steadfast in its mission to create safer working conditions, and we are proud to witness the positive transformation of the sector.”
The Sustainable Trade Initiative’s worker safety programme for clothing is called LABS. It is composed of a number of parties, including government agencies, non-profit organisations, and fashion brands Gap Inc., NIKE, Target, VF Corporation, and Walmart. Its goal is to reduce avoidable risks related to fire, electrical, and structural building safety in major nations that produce clothing and shoes.
In order to ensure safe working environments, LABS said that it places a great emphasis on developing stringent safety regulations and continuous improvement initiatives. To maintain a long-lasting safety culture, this entails implementing best practices, conducting safety assessments, and implementing training programmes.
