Despite the progress made towards workers’ welfare and well-being, there are still a few concern areas when it comes to Bangladesh’s flourishing readymade garment industry it seems.
As per a survey report titled ‘The Workers’ Voice Report 2019′ unveiled recently, about 21 per cent of garment workers reportedly maintained that that their factories do not grant sick leave, a mandatory obligation for the employers by law.
The fourth edition of the report jointly carried out by Awaj Foundation and Consulting Service International Ltd. (CSI) was released in capital Dhaka on Tuesday.
The survey was conducted among 447 workers of the readymade garment (RMG) factories between September and December 2018.
Despite improvements in the past, safety, health and labour conditions still put the workers’ lives at risk, said the report that intended to shed light on the working conditions from a gender perspective and analyse the socioeconomic factors that sustain gender inequality, while adding that female workers struggle more with the production targets set by the management than the male workers.
