
Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) was initiated seven years back to lead the apparel and footwear industry towards the nought discharge of dangerous chemicals for all products across all paths by the year 2020.
Various leading fashion brands and retailers have joined the initiative over the years. And now, 10 more firms, ranging from textile to chemical industry, solution provider and associate, have joined the ZDHC Roadmap, an alliance of more than 85 contributors.
Hailing from the textile sector, ACS Textiles Bangladesh Ltd., a British investment, has now become first from the country to be part of such an initiative. SALIRONE, manufacturer for 100 per cent silicone-coated materials is another textile company that has joined the programme. Italy-based leather manufacturer Santori Pellami Spa is also among the textile sector-related firms that have taken the ZDHC pledge.
GEO-CHEM Laboratories Pvt. Ltd., Modern Testing Services, Process Factory Srl, RITEX, UNPAC, Jollity Enterprise Co. Ltd. and Smit & Zoon are the other new member of the list.
These companies will work in association with other members for the widespread implementation of the sustainable chemistry, driving innovations and best practices in the textile, apparel and footwear supply chain to help protect consumers, workers and the planet.
The members will also be responsible for better chemical management practices and the adoption and application of ZDHC tools such as ZDHC Manufacturing Restricted Substances List (ZDHC MRSL) and the ZDHC Wastewater Guidelines, a press release issued the organisation underlined.
