The VAT Department of State Government raided eight textile dyeing and printing mills in Surat for claiming Input Tax Credit (ITC) on fake tax invoices and thereby reducing their liability to pay VAT. As per media reports, the dyeing and printing mill owners have been procuring dyes, fabrics, etc., and produced fake tax invoices for the same to claim ITC. VAT officials have seized documents that had fake entries and invoices during the raid.
