The US is developing the world’s first smart trench coat which will provide weather information and can also charge your cell phone. The coat has been named as ‘M’, and it comes with a smartphone app that monitors the weather and informs you if and when you should be wearing the trench coat. The additional advantage the trench coat provides is that you can charge your phone by simply sliding the handset into the breast pocket and connecting it to the charging dock. The makers of this garment at the New York based company, Motiif, claims the charging dock in the breast pocket to be practically invisible and the coat can be recharged by merely hanging it on a hanger with its wireless charging pad that has been included.
Motiif founder Rafael Balbi has confirmed that the coat will be ready for launch by February 2014 and is the first step to completing a smart wardrobe of the future. Motiif will select a handful of alpha testers to wear the coat for one to two weeks at a time, after which they will give the company their responses based on their experiences of ‘M’.
