LifeThreads LLC, a New York-based life sciences company, has launched a product line of medical apparel treated with zinc pyrithione (EPA-registered antimicrobial active ingredient). The new LifeThreads garments reduce harmful bacteria concentrations by 99.99 per cent and the treatment’s efficacy lasts for the life of the product including multiple industrial launderings. “Our goal is to provide the healthcare industry with the finest textile products offering maximum protection against harmful bacteria,” says Karan Jhunjhunwala, founder and CEO, LifeThreads. Zinc pyrithione, a fungistatic and bacteriostatic substance, is homogenously distributed throughout the polymer matrix which attack bacteria’s ability to reproduce and absorb nutrients and eventually eliminates bacteria.
