Jaya Shree Textiles, a unit of Aditya Birla Nuvo Ltd. and a leading player in linen and wool segment, is planning to invest about Rs. 2.5 billion to further expand its Rishra, West Bengal-based linen fabric and yarn production unit.
According to S Krishnamoorthy, CEO-Domestic Textiles, there is a proposal to double the yarn production capacity from 3,000 tonne a year to 6,000 tonnes over the next two years at the Rishra manufacturing unit. The proposal, which is yet to be approved by the company’s Board, includes increasing the linen manufacturing capacity at the West Bengal unit from 10 million metre per year to 13 million metre per year, he added.
If approved, it would trigger a second round of expansion through internal accruals. The first round of Rs. 1 billion expansion is set to be completed this month, which would take the Rishra facility’s production capacity to 3,000 tonnes of yarn and 10 million metres of fabric per annum.
