Japan has expressed hopes of taking in skilled manpower from Bangladesh for its textiles sector, Bangladesh’s Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed has said after coming back from his week-long Tokyo tour, which focused on seeking opportunities of trade expansion.
Speaking at a recent press briefing at his Secretariat office, after meeting visiting Japan’s House of Councillor member (MP) Hiroshi Yamada, Tofail told journalists that the Asian country has high demand of readymade garments from Bangladesh and that the demand was expected to rise in the near future.
Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Hiroyasu Izumi and Bangladesh’s Commerce Secretary Shuvashish Basu were present during the meeting.
Tofail also said, Japan has pledged to continue its duty-free trade facility for Bangladesh – everything but arms and hand gloves – after the country graduates out of Least Developed Country (LDC) club. Japan has also been urged to invest in Bangladesh’s Economic Zones.
Also, the minister declared that a high powered business delegation led by the country’s commerce minister will be visiting Bangladesh soon to explore investment opportunities. It is to be noted that Tofail had called out to Japan to invest in Bangladesh’s textiles sector during his visit to Japan from July 22 to July 27.
“Japanese investors have found Bangladesh investment policy, cheap and skilled labour, and the investment environment very lucrative. The investors will be visiting Bangladesh and exploring opportunities in these sectors,” Tofail said while expressing his views on the recently concluded Tokyo tour.
