A multi-storey building, which houses a powerloom factory as well as doubles as a residential complex in Maharashtra’s Bhiwandi area, caught fire early on Tuesday morning.
Over 50 people are feared to be trapped inside the building, but around 20 others have already been rescued, initial reports said.
The fire is reported to have erupted around 8.45 am. The garment factory and its godown are located on the first floor of the building, while second and third floors of the four-storey building houses residential apartments.
The fire has spread across all floors. Fire tenders have been rushed to location and rescue operations are on.
