Around hundreds of workers demonstrated at the gate of Orient Craft’ factory in Ranchi. The mainstream media has reported that this demonstration was owing to workers not being paid their pending wages.
Orient Craft is one of the leading apparel exporters of India.
The factory management has cleared that none of the wages is pending as far as workers are concerned. Due to coronavirus, the factory doesn’t have enough orders and therefore less than half capacity is being utilised.
However, demonstrated workers have been insisting that they should also be given job as few of their colleagues are working inside.
“We have discussed the issue with all workers and now come up with a rotational plan. So, we will try that maximum workers can get work for whatever orders are there. There is no wage issue at all,” shared a senior factory official on the request of not to disclose his identity.
On the other hand, few of the mid-level professionals who used to work at Ranchi unit of the company told that factory has not cleared wages of many workers, as well as their full and final, is also pending.
