The National Retail Federation (NRF) released its annual study forecasting consumer spending over the Easter weekend ahead of the holiday. In collaboration with Prosper Insights, the organisation reported that consumers planned to spend US $ 23.6 billion on Easter this year, rising from US $ 22.4 billion in 2024.
According to a survey, 49 per cent of customers stated they intended to purchase apparel on Easter, making it the fifth most popular Easter purchase. According to the NRF, this might translate into spending 3.5 billion dollars on the category.
With 55 per cent of consumers intending to visit a discount store over the holiday, these establishments continue to dominate the Christmas shopping landscape. Department stores come in second at 44 per cent, followed by internet retailers at 36 per cent and small companies in the area at 26 per cent.
Phil Rist, executive vice president of strategy at Prosper, noted that while most consumers intend to celebrate the religious holiday with friends and family, many will also use the opportunity to benefit from holiday-related sales.
