It is no hidden fact that ethnicwear retailers were amongst the worst performing brands in the pandemic.
But the forthcoming wedding season, marking its beginning from later this month, seems to bring high and happy hopes for these retailers, given the surge in demand for wedding attires including lehengas and sherwanis that has already begun to be noticed.
ET quoted Mayank Mohanlal, Director, Mohanlal Sons, as saying, “The weddings that were supposed to happen in April-June did not happen. Now those weddings are happening in October-December.”
He further pointed out that numerous weddings have been scheduled for this quarter. “Plus, there are no sayas (astrologically auspicious days) in January and February… so those weddings are also getting squeezed into this quarter,” Mayank highlighted.
Mohanlal Sons, founded in 1881, runs nearly 12 stores in north India; amongst its clients are top-notch politicians, celebrities from the Hindi film industry and cricketing world.
After months of inactivity, the ongoing festive season and the following wedding season indeed are spreading a wave of cheer amongst several ethnicwear brands in the country including Meena Bazaar, Biba, Manyavar and W for Woman.
