
Japanese fashion brand Uniqlo adds another artistic feather to its hat with a new collection of T-shirts designed by artists from all over the world. The new line is a result of a competition organized by the retailer called Nintendo-themed ‘Uniqlo T-shirt (UT) Grand Prix 2017’, which received over 16,000 submissions this year. Nintendo is a world famous Japanese company that makes consumer electronics and video game and these games with its iconic characters were the central subject for the competition.

Uniqlo is already known for amusing collaborations with artists like André Saraiva and Kaws, so this new collection of 25 t-shirts designed under its biggest global art competition – UTGP17, will be welcomed with open arms.
In the last few years, the fashion brand has held this competition with cult fantasy franchises like Disney/Pixar and Star Wars but thanks to Nintendo’s unparalleled fan following, this year’s contest garnered the highest number of entries. The submissions were personally judged by the creator of the famous Mario and Zelda characters, Shigeru Miyamoto and the outstanding prize goes to Takashi Kawazoe, with an award of US $ 10,000 from Uniqlo as well as having his t-shirt frontline the campaign, who said, “I was extremely surprised and pleased to receive such a prestigious award for my creation featuring one of Japan’s most renowned characters, Mario as a motif.” The first runner up is also from Japan, while the last prize goes to a Mexican artist, who will be the Mexican to win a place on Uniqlo’s worldwide design competitions.
The complete collection consists of 25 different graphics that draw inspirations from iconic games comprising of our beloved characters Mario, Zelda, Kirby and Pokémon. Placed at a very reasonable price of US $ 15 for adults (both men and women) and US $ 10 for kids, the collection will officially start selling from May 19.
