Uniqlo, the Japan-based designer casual wear manufacturer and retailer, is planning to launch its debut store in its arch-rival H&M’s home market – Sweden.
The upcoming store in the Nordic market is likely to open doors for customers this fall. Post-launch, Sweden will become the 20th market for Uniqlo world over and seventh in Europe.
The Japanese fashion retailer is popular in the East Asian and American markets as compared to Europe. It operates only 70 stores in the European market as of now. Overall, Uniqlo has more than 1,900 stores in 19 markets worldwide including Japan, Australia, Belgium, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Spain, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, UK and US.
“We are extremely proud and honoured to launch in Sweden in 2018, the year that also marks 150 years of diplomatic relations between Japan and Sweden,” said Tadashi Yanai, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Office at Uniqlo in a statement issued by the company.
The yet-to-be-launched store will open at the Kungsträdgården Park in Stockholm at Sweden house, designed by architect Sven Gottfried Markelius in the year 1969. It will be spread over an area of 1,580 square metres.
The brand is also preparing for its debut in the Indian market. Uniqlo, earlier had plans to enter India by 2018 but now it is expected that the fashion retailer will set up its maiden store in the country by 2019.
Uniqlo is expected to send a delegation to India soon. The team will search for a better location in the country, which has been turning into one of the most sought-after investment destinations among global fashion retailers over the years.
