
Apparel retailer Under Armour is mulling over expanding its reach on the global map via entering Indian market, which is dominated by sportswear brands like Nike and Adidas.
“Under Armour is a global company and we are always exploring opportunities to bring our technology and innovations to new markets, in order to make all athletes better, around the world. Our international business is a key growth driver for the company and will help propel the brand to US $ 7.5 billion by 2018,” an Under Armour spokesperson informed a leading Indian daily.

Over the course of time, it has been observed that people of India are getting fitness conscious, thus pushing growth in the sportswear market, as demand for products such as sports shoes, fitness apparels, etc. is going up. Having established itself in the American market, Under Armour will certainly create buzz in the Indian market too where sportswear brands such as Nike, Adidas and Puma are betting with around Rs. 6,000 crore, offering products like sports clothing, footwear and accessories.
Recently only, Under Armour, in its reshoring efforts in the USA, has set up ‘Lighthouse’ – with an aim of manufacturing for the US in the US, to modernize the apparel and footwear manufacturing setups by using high-end automation technologies and bringing down manpower requirement in manufacturing activewear.
