Boohoo, the British clothing online retailer, has teamed up with CottonConnect, in its efforts to be more sustainable.
CottonConnect is an organisation that’s known for working with farmers in Pakistan to grow cotton by using more sustainable methods.
Both Boohoo and CottonConnect together have helped train 2,500 farmers on how to grow cotton in a more sustainable manner – also allowing the British e-tailer to trace it back to the village where cotton is grown in.
The production of Responsible Environment Enhanced Livelihoods (REEL) cotton has involved training at specifically developed demonstration plots.
Notably, Boohoo products made by using REEL cotton are signposted with ‘Ready for the Future’ labels.
The REEL process helps the business to trace and track the cotton throughout the supply chain. The cotton is then cleaned using a process called ginning, is transported from the field to be spun into yarn, then woven into fabric and dyed.
CottonConnect also educates farmers about the benefits of reducing the use of pesticides.
Boohoo Group is a British online fashion retailer that’s aimed at 16-30-year-olds. The business was founded in 2006, and generated sales of £856.9 million in 2019.
