Some Indian brands have continued to thrive and expand their legacy and Turtle Clothing Company, based in West Bengal, is one such example. With a history spanning over 30 years, Turtle is a well-established menswear brand, primarily targeting men aged 22-45 in Tier-1, Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities across India.
Strong Reach across Multiple Channels
Turtle has grown into a well-known brand, boasting over 168 exclusive stores nationwide and a presence in nearly all major retail chains. Additionally, the brand is available in over 1,500 multi-brand outlets and 1,300 large format stores across 400 cities in India, with significant market penetration in states like West Bengal, Odisha, Bihar, Assam and Jharkhand. The brand continues to expand, with plans to open more stores, which is expected to drive future revenue growth. Turtle is also available on all leading e-commerce platforms.
According to available data, Turtle Limited’s total operating income saw an impressive year-on-year growth of 85 per cent, reaching Rs. 404.19 crore in FY ’23, compared to Rs. 217.94 crore in FY ’22. This growth was largely driven by an increase in sales volume, thanks to the opening of new showrooms and a rise in demand post-Covid.
Led by Sanjay Jhunjhunwala, Shitanshu Jhunjhunwalla and Amit Ladsaria, Turtle offers a diverse range of menswear, including casual and formal shirts, trousers, T-shirts, joggers, shorts and denim, with a balanced mix of knitted and woven garments. The brand uses 100 per cent cotton as well as blends like polyester (80 per cent) and cotton (20 per cent), terry rayon and other materials.
Despite competing with well-established brands in the menswear segment, Turtle’s products are priced more affordably than those marketed by foreign companies in India.
According to Turtle, it has strong plans to increase its sourcing from Bangladesh in the near future. The proximity of Turtle’s headquarters to Bangladesh is a favourable factor in this regard. |
Sourcing from Bangladesh
Turtle currently sources some of its products from Bangladesh, a relationship that is poised to grow alongside the brand’s expansion plans. A company official told Apparel Resources (AR) that Turtle has strong plans to increase its sourcing from Bangladesh in the near future. The proximity of Turtle’s headquarters to Bangladesh is a favourable factor in this regard. Bangladeshi RMG companies are particularly strong in producing shirts and T-shirts, both of which are key product lines for Turtle.
