June 2022 saw the UK register lowest like-for-like sales – lowest since February 2021.
However, the only silver lining for the country’s retail sector was that fashion managed to stand out by posting double-digit growth.
Though not very impressive, the UK’s like-for-like retail sales rose year-on-year by 8.4 per cent in June – sales notably coming from bricks-and-mortar and online.
That isn’t bad but it is worth stating that the numbers are lowest in 16 months, which is understandably due to inflation.
Total non-store like-for-like sales weren’t good either at 1.6 per cent higher in June.
Fashion segment in the month saw a 15.2 per cent rise in like-for-like sales and it wasn’t surprising considering people still continue to buy apparels and footwear especially now that all offices and schools are functioning normally.
However, it needs to be seen how much the UK’s retail sector – including fashion – will be able to perform in the coming months now that British PM Boris Johnson has resigned, which might impact the stability.
