As Temu puts further pressure on its high street rivals, it will expand its network of UK-based suppliers to sell its goods in an effort to reduce delivery times.
Customers can now purchase goods from UK-based vendors that will arrive in as little as one day under the e-commerce behemoth’s “local” effort, according to The Times.
The majority of the “local” products are items like winter coats and tents that would be too expensive to ship from China. It is believed that Temu intends to create an office in London by hiring hundreds of employees in the UK.
It is the most recent action taken by the 12.1 million users of the shopping app, who previously could only order inexpensive goods from Chinese vendors that took one to two weeks to arrive.
The European Commission is presently pursuing legal action against Temu due to concerns that the platform is not doing enough to prevent the sale of illicit items.
Concerns that the e-tailer, which faced legal action for “manipulative practices” in May, lacked enough safeguards against “previously suspended rogue traders” resurfacing on the marketplace, with some items returning within days of being taken down, prompted a formal probe last month.
