For the second consecutive day, Target consumers faced issues checking out at stores across the United States, after the registers were down for nearly two hours on Saturday due to a system outage that created long queues.
Sunday too wasn’t great for shoppers!
Several Target stores on Sunday were unable to accept credit card payments for more than an hour. Customers said card readers weren’t working and they had to pay in cash.
The technical glitch was caused by an error made during regular system maintenance, Target spokeswoman Jenna Reck confirmed, while the firm maintained that Sunday’s issue was unrelated and was caused by an issue at vendor NCR. It was not widespread like on Saturday.
“While this was not an issue within Target’s technology system, Target was unable to process select card payments at some stores for about 90 minutes. The issue is now resolved and payments are going through normally,” Target’s statement said.
“Although this was unrelated to Saturday’s issue, we know many guests had a frustrating shopping experience in our stores this weekend. For that, we are truly sorry. We never want to disappoint any guests and we’re working tirelessly to ensure these issues don’t happen again,” it added.
Target’s last widespread register outage took place on 15 June 2014, exactly five years to the day of Saturday’s issue. Reck said the 2014 outage was related to a network issue.
Besides, Target had also suffered technical issues during the 2013 holiday shopping season when the firm suffered a massive data breach that affected more than 100 million customers.
