The fashion world in Brazil is changing because of the plus-size movement. Amanda Momente, a plus-size designer, started her own clothing brand with the unavailability of larger brands. Major brands usually only have a small amount of larger-sized clothes, so there’s a lot of demand for more options. The plus-size clothing market in Brazil has grown a lot in the past decade and is now worth billions of dollars. However, there’s still not enough variety to meet everyone’s needs.
Marcela Liz, the leader of the Brazil Plus Size Association, has highlighted a prevailing trend among major brands: their limited allocation of clothing options for larger sizes, resulting in a latent demand. Over the past decade until 2021, the plus-size sector has experienced extraordinary growth in Brazil, surpassing a remarkable 75 per cent surge and achieving an impressive 9.6 billion reais (roughly 1.9 billion dollars) in sales, as reported by the association.
Projections paint an even more optimistic picture, suggesting that sales in this market segment could reach a staggering 15 billion reais by 2027 in Latin America’s largest economy. Despite noticeable improvements in supply, the unmet demand remains a significant factor.
