
Death of George Floyd has severely taken its toll on the US retail industry! Several stores have announced temporary closure and, worryingly, quite a few have been looted too.
During the protest, stores of many leading apparel retailers like Target, Macy’s, adidas, Nike and Louis Vuitton were vandalised and looted by rioters in the US.
Following the death of George Floyd, 2 people were killed in nationwide protests over the issue, leading to a highly tensed situation across the country. As per media reports, police has arrested more than 1,500 people across 20 cities in last 3 days.
Well-known retailer Target Corp., which has around 1,900 stores across US, announced 2 days back the closure of 175 of its stores.
The step was taken after its Minneapolis store was looted and the video of the same went viral across the globe. There are several videos on Twitter that show various stores being looted by people across the country.
In a statement, the company said that the focus of the company will remain on its team members’ safety and helping the community heal; though it is also being said that some of its stores have re-opened.
It is also reported that in Portland, rioters also looted Louis Vuitton bags worth US $ 85K.
Reportedly, in Pioneer Place Mall, a high-end shopping centre in downtown Portland, Oregon H&M stores also faced such incidents.
