An agreement has been inked between Stella McCartney, a luxury lifestyle brand, and Kering, the French holding group, which has paved the way for the designer Stella McCartney to buy out her stake in the eponymous brand launched in partnership with Kering in 2001.
Now, McCartney will be the sole owner of her brand in its entirety as she had bought a 50% stake, which Kering had owned since the brand was founded.
Despite the latest agreement, their collaboration in the field of sustainable fashion will also continue. The brand’s momentum will not be impacted as the cooperation between Stella McCartney Ltd. and Kering will continue over time.
“It is a very appropriate time to get the full control of the company having my name,” stated McCartney, adding, “The association with Kering for last 17 years has been very precious.”
The British designer is preparing to start the next chapter of her life and is looking forward to the success of her brand and team in the future.
Markedly, Stella McCartney is a small brand when compared to Kering, which recorded € 15.5 billion revenue in 2017. The fashion company owns brands like Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga, Brioni, Gucci, Puma, Volcom, Saint Laurent Paris and other luxury, sport and lifestyle brands.
Interestingly, Stella McCartney expanded its product line and forayed into the swimwear segment for men in January this year.
Stella McCartney will continue to serve as a Board Member of the Kering Foundation, which is dedicated to stopping violence against women and improving women’s lives.
