Fashion designer Stella McCartney has launched a new collection dubbed “All Together Now,” deriving inspiration from the Beatles movie, “Yellow Submarine.”
The collection comprising womenswear, menswear and kidswear will don scenes, motifs and graphics featured in the movie.
As the movie celebrated its 50th anniversary last year, Stella McCartney’s new collection pays tribute to the freaky, eccentric adventure with designs by the graphic designer Heinz Edelmann, and the ready-to-wear is accompanied by accessories such as Yellow Submarine guitar case, trainers, handbags and record cases.
Expressing her excitement about the new launch, McCartney said in a statement: “I recently went to a screening with family and friends for the digital re-launch of Yellow Submarine. I hadn’t seen it since I was young, and honestly, it blew my mind. It affected me in a way I just wasn’t expecting. Especially this idea of connecting people and bringing people together –politically this message has never been more relevant. So, I came out and I was like ‘I have to do something’”.
Inspired by the aesthetics of the movie, she said, “The colours and the psychedelia and the patterns and the prints! It translated effortlessly into the ready-to-wear. It’s an emotional and authentic collection and it really crosses over.”
The collection is infused with eccentric colours along with movie-inspired motifs and patches all over.
The most-loved pieces of the collection include knitwear and jersey pieces for women, men and kids, embroidered with “All Together Now” slogans in multiple languages, a scene directly picked from the movie and outerwear and shirting featuring motifs saying “All you need is love” and “love, love, love.”
The collection has a quirky mood as for women, the ‘Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds’ scene is redesigned into a painterly, patch-worked dancer jacquard on dresses, and an extravagant fur-free-fur jacquard coat carries The Beatles in their marching band uniforms, while an exclusive edition monogram with mini yellow submarine motifs features on the Alter-Nappa Eclypse and Falabella.
Following the same line, the menswear collection features pop-art portraits of The Beatles to create bold patches on outerwear and are reconceptualised as graphic intarsias on knitwear. A full-length black coat is covered with individually embroidered patches and bold stripes are drawn across Savile Row tailoring, trousers and jackets, inspired by the marching band uniforms in the film.
The kidswear is fun-themed concept loaded with polychromatic mood in its Beatles graphics and yellow submarine motifs in the entire collection.
Footwear also has a place in the collection with a distinctive pair of chunky yellow Velcro trainers for women.
The collection commits to McCartney’s sustainable ethic as the materials used are eco-conscious such as organic cotton jersey and denim, regenerated cashmere, Econyl recycled nylon and sustainable viscose, and the newly introduced 100 per cent recycled cotton Breton.
‘All Together Now’ features in Stella McCartney’s autumn 2019 collections and will be available in Stella McCartney stores and online, and on Farfetch.com from 8 July and, will later be available at further selected wholesaler partners worldwide from 15 July.
