Sambhavi, a woven textile brand based in Coimbatore, has introduced a novel fabric skillfully crafted by visually impaired artisans. This pioneering textile has been utilised in the brand’s inaugural product—a little bag—envisioned to not only display the exceptional talents of these weavers but also elevate their standard of living. The product measuring eight by six inches, is adorned with the fabric intricately crafted by individuals with visual impairments and is lined with soft cotton. Additionally, each bag contains an informative card that sheds light on the social impact of the product and the remarkable journey it took to create.
In a recent press release, Sambhavi passionately articulated their mission: to empower the visually impaired, recognising their remarkable journey characterised by touch, sound, and unwavering resilience. The launch strategically coincides with World Blind Day, observed annually on 12th October.
Numerous artisans, have lost their sight due to accidents who now rely on their heightened senses of touch and sound. Sambhavi is dedicated to honouring and celebrating their artistic contributions, granting these artisans not only a means of livelihood but also a profound sense of purpose. Founded in 2021 by designer and philanthropist Abinithi Sammbavi Govindh, Sambhavi passionately strives to promote weavers and enhance their overall quality of life, with plans underway to launch a new official website.
