
Leading e-commerce retailer Amazon India, in its quarterly earnings for the September quarter, stated that the number of its new Prime subscribers doubled during this year’s Prime Day sale.
While various players shifted their sale events to October earlier, Amazon went ahead with Prime Day in India in August and posted record sales.
“Amazon India also hosted Prime Day on 6-7 August, during which, twice as many customers became Prime members compared to the previous year,” the company said in a recent statement.
As far as the total number of Amazon’s global subscribers is concerned, the online major has more than 150 million subscribers worldwide.
A recent report by J P Morgan said that it expects Amazon’s Prime subscriber base to reach 180 million by 2020.
As per the figures reported in August, Amazon had posted record sales to the tune of around US $ 600 million in 48 hours.
As far as the global numbers are concerned, the e-tailer informed that its third-party sellers sold goods over US $ 3.5 billion during Prime Day, a growth of 60 per cent compared to last year.
