American sports giant Nike has filed suit against American-Canadian apparel retailer Lululemon, especially its Mirror home gym division.
As per the lawsuit, Nike has alleged that Mirror has infringed on a patent it filed for an apparatus that prompts users to reach certain exertion levels and determines heart rate zones based on real-time measurements.
In a statement released to media, a spokesperson for Lululemon said that the patents in question are overly broad and invalid. The athletic apparel retailer exuded confidence and said that it is now looking forward to defend the allegations in the court.
Meanwhile, Nike hasn’t commented on the lawsuit.
Before filing the lawsuit, Nike had sent a letter to Lululemon wherein it claimed the latter was allegedly infringing on 6 patents, with the intent to arriving at an amicable resolution.
However, Lululemon had replied in December that it did not think Mirror infringed on those patents.
Consequently, Nike has now filed a suit and said that it continues to suffer the economic harm as a result of Lululemon’s infringing activities.
Nike, which was founded in 1964, is globally the largest supplier of athletic shoes and apparels, with revenue in excess of US $ 37.4 billion in 2020.
