With the aim to protect the customers from fraudulence and make its members accountable, e-CAB or the e-Commerce Association of Bangladesh is preparing a standard operating procedure (SOP).
According to reports, in the last 5 years the popularity of online shopping has increased in Bangladesh and, during the country-wide shut down imposed by the Government in the wake of the breakout of the coronavirus pandemic in the country, e-commerce gained much traction.
However, at the same time, there have also been allegations that some unscrupulous entities are taking advantage of the existing situation to cheat the end-customers – there are reports that some online players are putting up pictures of high-end products but delivering low-quality goods to customers while also trying to attract people with various offers– in the absence of proper surveillance.
To stop such malpractices, e-CAB is working with the Ministry of Commerce to come up with the guidelines, stated e-CAB General Secretary Abdul Wahid Tomal while adding that online cheating will decline drastically after completion of the SOP and guidelines for the e-commerce sites.
