Online resale marketplace Mercari has unveiled Mercari x Japan, a new offering that provides US shoppers with direct access to inventory from its Japanese marketplace. This launch coincides with the opening of Mercari’s first physical store in the US, located on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles.
Mercari x Japan allows US customers to explore a wide array of products, including men’s and women’s fashion from brands such as Bape, Beams, Comme des Garçons, Hysteric Glamour, and Seiko. The platform also features an expanded sneaker collection with brands like Adidas, Asics, Converse, and Nike, as well as women’s handbags from high-demand labels.
John Lagerling, CEO of Mercari US, stated, “This launch represents the first connection between our US and Japanese marketplaces, allowing American shoppers to access items from millions of Japanese sellers.”
In addition, Mercari is debuting its first US physical store, ‘Mercari on Melrose’, in Los Angeles. The store features a curated selection of fashion items from Japan, with spaces dedicated to listing items, hosting DIY classes and events, and a partner pop-up area.
Lagerling added, “We’re thrilled to offer an in-person experience of Mercari’s unique marketplace. Our Melrose store brings to life what millions of customers love about our platform, showcasing our diverse selection of fashion and inspiring new ideas for resale through an engaging, immersive environment.”
Founded in Japan in 2013 and launching in the US the following year, Mercari has grown to become a leading resale marketplace with over 50 million downloads in the US and 400,000 new listings daily.
