Japan Chain Stores Association (JCSA) has released retail sales statistics of April
22 and apparels have seen an increase on Y-o-Y basis, while declining on monthly note as compared to March figures.
The apparel sales stood at 66,200.27 million yen (US $ 518.57 million) in April ’22, increasing by 7.30 per cent on Y-o-Y basis, while declining marginally by 3 per cent over March ’22.
Of all three product categories, menswear remained positive both on yearly and monthly basis, while womenswear and kidswear (including other types of apparels) declined on monthly basis.
Revenues generated by menswear products were 11,385.25 million yen (US $ 89.18 million) in April ’22 and increased by 6.60 per cent on monthly basis, whereas the figures saw a rise of 6.10 per cent on Y-o-Y basis.
The sales of womenswear products valued 16,381.81 million yen (US $ 128.32 million) – up 5.60 per cent on yearly note – in the fourth month of 2022 and declined by 5.50 per cent on M-o-M basis.
All other type of clothing too saw an increase of 8.40 per cent on yearly note as the sales valued 38,433.21 million yen (US $ 301.06 million). However, the category saw sales falling by 4.60 per cent on monthly basis in April.
