After a countrywide lockdown that has been imposed in an effort to try prevent the rapid spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in Bangladesh, retail outlets, shops and malls have been allowed to reopen from 11 August from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
Media reports maintained this while adding the decision to reopen the commercial establishments and activities was announced by Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel.
Meanwhile, speaking to the media, President of Bangladesh Shop Owners Association, Helal Uddin, said that he has urged all the traders to inform the association about their lockdown-induced financial losses, and went on to add, “We will send the same to the concerned Government office.”
As per the Bangladesh Shop Owners Association, there are around 56 lakh wholesale and retail establishments employing over 2 crore people in Bangladesh.
It may be mentioned here that strict restrictions have been imposed in Bangladesh since 28 June in the wake of an increase in coronavirus infections even as the Cabinet on 8 August, reportedly, issued a notification underlining restrictions would not be extended even though the situation was yet to improve, as per reports.
