American department store chain Macy’s has inaugurated its first-ever off-price store – Backstage in Meadows Mall, Las Vegas (USA). The store will offer discounts on products from 20 to 80 per cent.
Notably, Macy’s Backstage is spread over 16,000 sq. ft. within a store that offers the fashion-enthusiasts significant discounts on top fashion brands.
The company opened seven free-standing stores in Northeast and San Antonio in 2015 and 2016 respectively to start this concept.
Macy’s now plans to open three Backstage stores in Downtown Summerlin, Galleria at Sunset mall in Henderson (Nevada) and in Meadowood Mall in Reno in the coming time.
Currently, the fashion retailer runs 96 Backstage stores and aims to open 100 new stores in the current fiscal year. A dedicated distribution centre in Columbus, Ohio, is also on cards.
Not only the Backstage store is enhancing Macy’s overall sales (as it offers huge discounts) but is also generating jobs in the US. An ‘off-price’ store adds around 10 per cent more employees to Macy’s which employees around 130,000 staff.
Markedly, earlier this year Macy’s toppled brands like Jcpenny.com, Nordstrom.com and Nike.com to be named as the top apparel retailer online.
The company is investing in its app and online platform to allow the customers to scan the product via their phones and pay using digital modes of payment, which helps saving time and provides different in-shop experience.
