As lockdowns and social distancing restrictions are relaxed in some states in USA, Macy’s has announced its plans to reopen 68 of its retail outlets in those states within a week.
On Monday, states like Oklahoma, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee and Texas will lift certain bans allowing Macy’s to come back into operations with limited hours from 11 am to 7 pm.
In addition, the retailer is planning to open 50 more stores coming Thursday and has almost all of its 775 outlets up and running within 6 weeks if approvals are gained from local and state authorities across the country.
However, the stores will see changes in terms of shopping experience by doing away with the alteration services and introducing a no-touch policy for the beauty department.
Trials of clothes may be restricted and customers as well as employees will be encouraged to follow social distancing norms while in the store for their safety. Hand sanitisers will be stationed throughout the store for their use.
There will also be regular disinfection and cleaning of elevators, fitting rooms and display cases along with the installation of plexiglass at the cash counter. Any apparel that is tried on and left behind or left at the cash counter will not be returned to the shop floor for 24 hours.
The announcement of store reopening is uplifting news for Macy’s that has been struggling with finances ever since the lockdowns began. The fast-track process of getting back on their feet might prevent further troubles.
