French luxury fashion group LVMH has announced partnership with UNESCO!
The fashion giant has joined hands with UNESCO MAB (Man and the Biosphere) programme wherein a new biodiversity strategy is set to be unveiled to fight deforestation in the Amazon rainforest.
The sustainable initiative is seen as a part of retailer’s LVMH Initiatives For the Environment (LIFE 360) programme.
The programme intends to preserve the ecosystem by rehabilitating 5 million hectares of natural habitats, while safeguarding animal welfare by 2030.
Notably, the French luxury retailer has also said that it is committed to investing €5 billion to help in reforestation and rehabilitation of degraded lands.
Additionally, the amount will also be, reportedly, utilised to help enhance fire management and reduce water pollution in biosphere reserves in Bolivia, Brazil, Ecuador and Peru.
More on the same, Antoine Arnault, Head of Image and Environment, LVMH, said “Luxury is at the intersection of nature and creativity. We need nature in order to craft our high-quality products, and nature must be renewed and safeguarded.”
LVMH also made it distinct that it is committed to not use raw materials from zones that have high risk of deforestation.
