On Monday (15th January), a Dhaka court issued arrest warrants for Mohammad Rassel, the managing director of the e-commerce platform Evaly, and his wife Shamima Nasrin in connection with a cheque bounce case.
The order was issued by Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ali Haider when the couple failed to appear before the court on the specified date.
Sadikur Rahman Tamal, the prosecution lawyer, confirmed the issuance of the arrest warrants, to the media.
The case revolves around a customer named Md Tanvir Hossain, who, on 13th March 2021, paid Taka 2.45 lakh to Evaly for the purchase of a motorbike after responding to an advertisement.
However, the company failed to deliver the motorcycle within the promised 45 days.
Subsequently, on 13th September, Evaly issued a cheque of Taka 2.45 lakh to the customer, but it bounced due to insufficient funds in the account.
In response, the customer’s lawyer sent a legal notice on 22nd October 2022, demanding the return of the money taken for the undelivered motorbike.
As the couple failed to refund the amount within the stipulated time, the customer filed a case with the court on 22nd December 2022.
