River Island, the London-based multi-channel fashion retailer, is here with its new sustainability strategy.
That’s The Kind Society!
The clothing retailer has underpinned this sustainability strategy with 12 major commitments that focus on people, planet, principles and partners.
The commitments – aligned to UN Sustainability Goals – include promotion of recruitment of candidates from diverse social backgrounds in addition to acquiring full visibility up to Tier-4 in its products supply chain by 2023.
Besides, the retailer plans to have at least 50 per cent of its garments sustainably attributed by 2023.
Amongst its other commitments include reduction of water use in its products’ manufacturing process by 50 per cent by 2030 and eliminating all single use plastics from UK operations by 2022.
The Kind Society strategy also focuses on zero waste to landfill from all UK operations by 2023 and zero waste to landfill from its products’ manufacturing process by 2025.
Meanwhile, the retailer said that it has already eliminated single use plastic from its packaging, besides using responsibly sourced cotton in jeans and 100 per cent traceability – in addition to using 100 per cent green energy in its stores, head office and distribution centres.
Set up in 1948, River Island is known for womenswear, menswear, kidswear and footwear. There are over 350 River Island stores across the UK, Ireland and internationally.
