Swedish fashion retailer, KappAhl’s products from its recycling clothing collection initiative, established last year, are now available at all its Swedish stores. The company is now looking at installing more collection facilities at its stores in Norway, Finland and Poland. “More places for textile collection contributes to making sustainable behaviour seem more accessible to many people that are our customers,” pointed out KappAhl’s sustainability manager Frederika Klarén. The initiative was taken up in order to curb the use of conventionally grown cotton and oil-based products such as polyester for sustainable alternatives. The donated clothes are transported to a sorting facility, where they are divided into reused, recycled, and energy recovered categories. For every kilo of collected clothes, KappAhl says it donates two cents (EU) to charities in its manufacturing countries, and contributing customers receive a discount coupon for future purchases.
