Leading rugs and home textile brand Jaipur Rugs has made a strategic acquisition of a competitor brand, Shyam Ahuja. Founded in 1963, Shyam Ahuja revolutionised the dhurrie rug, elevating it to a symbol of luxury and sophistication.
The acquisition encompasses the entire Shyam Ahuja design archive, including the personal collection of the brand’s founder. Jaipur Rugs plans to develop the brand as a separate entity, leveraging its existing supply chain and global reach to revive the Shyam Ahuja legacy.
Yogesh Chaudhary, Director of Jaipur Rugs has expressed acquiring the Shyam Ahuja as an honour as the brand is a representation of the ‘pinnacle of Indian craftsmanship and design’, he added. The Jaipur Rugs director plans to preserve the ‘heritage’ of the acquired brand.
The acquisition is expected to further solidify Jaipur Rugs’ position as a global leader in the luxury rug and home textile market. The company plans to continue operations at existing Shyam Ahuja showrooms in Mumbai, Delhi, and New York, with further expansion plans to be announced in the future.
