Inditex is embarking on a new era for Zara Kids with the hiring of Lorenzo Marcheselli to manage the children’s business of its leading brand. The Italian executive, who has been heading Inditex’s Italian operations since 2018, has a rich background with past positions that included managing the group’s UK and Ireland business, as well as leading Zara’s commercial direction in Europe.
Lorenzo follows retiring Begoña Costas, a veteran employee of the company who has worked there for over 40 years, a statement from Galician retailing giant Inditex says.
As part of the wider leadership shake-up, meanwhile, Bárbara Bastianelli will head Inditex’s Italian business. Previously Commercial Director at Zara for Europe and Asia, Bárbara takes up the job previously held by Marcheselli.
The overhaul coincides with Zara celebrating its 50th birthday in a series of events, such as a high-profile artwork in A Coruña designed in partnership with artist Es Devlin. Zara Kids, present in the company from the start, became even more strategically significant in 2022 when Zara brought its standalone children’s brand, Kiddy’s Class, in-house and simplified its operations.
Zara, in all its divisions, including Zara Home—recorded revenue of € 27.78 billion (US $ 32.75 billion) in fiscal 2024, a growth of 6.6% over last year. Inditex as a whole recorded sales of € 8.27 billion (US $ 9.75 billion) in the first quarter of the ongoing fiscal year, an increase of 1.5% from the corresponding quarter of last year.
