Jaipur Rugs, India’s leading manufacturer, exporter, supplier and retailer famed for its handmade carpets and rugs, is looking at expanding its domestic retail presence by adding 20 new doors across major Indian cities.
The company’s existing outlets can be found at Jaipur and Delhi, markedly.
In an exclusive interaction with Apparel Resources, Jaipur Rugs Director Yogesh Chaudhary shared that the envisaged store expansion will be achieved through a combination of both company-owned and company-operated (COCO) stores and franchisee outlets.
“We plan to launch COCOs in top metro cities such as Mumbai and Bengaluru, whilst the non-metro outlets will be based on the franchise model. Besides, COCOs will be exclusive stores and the franchisee locations will be shop-in-shops (SIS) format,” Chaudhary told us.
Significantly, the store sizes will be subject to the availability of suitable real estate and other commercial considerations. Nevertheless, the upcoming stores will house the brand’s entire range of distinctly-designed and high-quality hand-knotted, hand-tufted carpets and rugs along with an assortment of handloom products, we were told.
Furthermore, Chaudhary, as well, apprised us that the Mumbai and Bengaluru stores are expected to commence operations within this year only.
Notably, besides own stores, Jaipur Rugs caters to pan-India market via its online store and a wide-spread distribution channel, while its overseas exports cover around 50 countries across the United States, Europe, Australia, the Middle East and the Far East.
Moreover, the Jaipur (Rajasthan)-based family enterprise has also carved a niche for itself through its CSR initiative Jaipur Rugs Foundation, which reaches out to remote rural areas and works for the ‘entrepreneurship development’ of local artisans and their communities and also for their ‘social development’ through interventions, awareness generation and linkages.
