Additional plans for the launch of GU’s first flagship shop in the United States have been revealed by Fast Retailing, the parent company of sibling brand GU and Japanese fashion retailer Uniqlo.
The inaugural flagship store opening, scheduled for September 19, will take place in conjunction with the opening of the company’s US e-commerce site at 578 Broadway in SoHo, New York City. The brand’s collection of clothing for men and women will be available in the new flagship shop, which is spread across two floors and 10,225 square feet. Additionally, a variety of bags, accessories, and shoes will be available.
GU’s distinctive offerings, such as the GU NEW U concept featuring the newest trends and its MINI edit MAX carefully curated collections to maximise possible style and outfit combinations, will also be available at the debut flagship store.
To further serve US customers outside of the New York region, GU will open its US flagship shop in addition to launching an e-commerce website and app. GU is going to introduce a new menswear partnership with UNDERCOVER, which comprises a variety of products for all genders, in conjunction with the inauguration of the flagship store and the launch of its e-commerce platform.
The largest garment manufacturer in Asia, Fast Retailing, thinks GU can succeed similarly to Uniqlo, which is why GU is making its US debut. Pronounce it G-U, GU is more affordable than Uniqlo and mostly caters to a younger demographic. Despite being well-known in Japan, it is still not as well-known outside.
Tadashi Yanai, the creator of Fast Retailing, had earlier stated his intentions to build the business into a global force by boosting yearly earnings to five trillion yen, of which GU was expected to contribute 700 billion yen. Two years after GU launched its North American growth with a pop-up shop in SoHo in 2022, the first US flagship store is set to open.
