In order to improve its global growth strategy and increase its regional presence, the UK-based retail conglomerate Frasers Group has concluded its agreement to purchase South Africa’s sporting goods store Holdsport.
Holdsport is the parent business of Outdoor Warehouse and Sportsmans Warehouse, two sports retailers that specialise in outdoor pursuits including hiking and camping. Additionally, the firm owns the upscale streetwear and shoe store Shelflife.
Holdsport gives Frasers the chance to expand its Sports Direct brand in the area with 88 outlets in South Africa and Namibia as well as a developing e-commerce network.
In addition, the company has created its own brands, First Ascent, Cape Storm, and OTG, and partners with well-known companies like Nike, adidas, Asics, Hoka, and Garmin. Holdsport’s sales exceeded US $ 165.22 million in the year that ended in February 2024.
Holdsport’s infrastructure is also included in the acquisition, including a factory that supports regional manufacturing and contemporary warehouses in Johannesburg and Cape Town with room to develop.
By extending its retail reach into Europe and North Africa, this infrastructure enhances Frasers’ most recent investment in the Hudson Group.
