Walmart-owned Flipkart Group has announced the acquisition of Augmented Reality (AR) firm Scapic for an undisclosed amount.
This move will help the conglomerate enhance customer experience on its platforms.
Scapic is a cloud-based platform which enables the creation and publishing of 3D and AR content. They currently serve clients in e-commerce and marketing, but with this deal, Flipkart will own 100 per cent stake in the company.
In order to improve customer experience and brand advertising, Scapic will help Flipkart with camera experiences, virtual storefronts and explore new opportunities across various categories including fashion.
“This year has fastened the pace of online adoption, be it in shopping, education or communication, as people prioritise health and safety. As we make investments that focus on nurturing and developing the retail ecosystem, we are also committed to making our platform easier to navigate and richer for consumers in terms of content and experience,” said Kalyan Krishnamurthy, CEO, Flipkart Group, talking about the acquisition.
Scapic was founded in 2017 by Ajay PV and VK Sai Krishna, and is a SaaS platform that turns e-commerce visuals into immersive product experiences.
“Scapic is building visual technology that brings products to life using Augmented Reality and 3D. Scapic’s no-code platform helps create immersive experiences across categories such as fashion, furniture and electronics,” commented the Co-founders.
