Sydney is all set to become the second location after Melbourne in Australia to host a fulfilment centre of the US-based online retailer Amazon. The retailer will start operations at its new FC in the second half of this year.
The newly announced FC will be spread over an area of 43,000 square metres will be located in suburb of Moorebank, in Sydney’s south west. Notably, Dandenong South in Melbourne was the first location in Australia to have the first Amazon FC in the country, to service the far-flung Australian communities.
The upcoming FC in Sydney will be Amazon’s largest centre in Australia to date. It will create job opportunities for locals and offer benefits to small- and medium-sized Australian businesses who trade on amazon.com.au.
Recruitment for various roles including operations, support and technical specialists at the upcoming FC will kick-start soon.
The e-retailer is also planning to start its fast-shipping club Prime for shoppers by mid of this year.
Uncompetitive pricing and lack of offering have reportedly created a tough situation for Amazon in Australia which was the 13th market in the world to have its own dedicated Amazon site after Brazil, India, Japan and Spain, to name a few.
Before the formal launch in Australia, Amazon was only selling books in the country but now the retailer is offering a wide range of products like electronics, sports equipment, home improvement and beauty products, apparels, shoes, etc.
The retailer is further mulling to offer free shipping across the country for orders over 49 Australian dollars.
