Decathlon Sports India expects to record high double-digit sales growth in the ongoing fiscal and plans to more than double its running sports business over the next four years, according to its CEO Sankar Chatterjee.
The company currently generates slightly less than Rs 500 crore from its running sports segment and aims to double the business over the next four years. This would take the category to more than Rs 1,000 crore in revenue.
Decathlon India currently operates 132 stores and plans to increase its network to 200 stores by 2030. The company is also expected to open more than half a dozen new outlets in the next quarter.
The French sporting goods retailer recently expanded into Northeast India with its first store in Guwahati, Assam. It is also strengthening its wholesale and reseller network across the region, including Shillong and other cities.
Decathlon is investing 100 million to build and strengthen its manufacturing ecosystem in India, with footwear among its key focus areas.
Chatterjee said around 50% of the footwear quantities sold through Decathlon’s Indian stores this year are Made in India. The company is also investing in technology and talent, including product managers and engineers, to build its footwear manufacturing capabilities.
The company is also monitoring the proposed India-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and its potential impact on Indian manufacturing and exports, particularly in the sporting goods sector.
Decathlon Sports India reported revenue of Rs 4,133.10 crore in FY25. Chatterjee said the company’s growth in the ongoing fiscal is currently a little higher than double digits, while the annual report for the previous financial year is expected within a month.
Decathlon has also introduced its expert running sub-brand Kiprun in India as part of its plans to expand the country’s running business.
Kiprun will introduce 35 new running products in India this year, including 17 high-performance running shoes. The brand caters to beginner, intermediate and elite runners across footwear, apparel and accessories.
